The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has decided to suspend Italian international Sandro Tonali, who plays for Newcastle, for a period of ten months.
The verdict is in, and it’s severe. Sandro Tonali has been suspended for ten months. This penalty results from his involvement in sports betting on football matches, including those of AC Milan, his former club from 2020 to 2023.
These bets were placed on illegal platforms, leading to this suspension.
Sandro Tonali, the most expensive Italian player in history after his €64 million transfer to Newcastle last summer, is not the only one to be penalized in this sports betting case. Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has received a seven-month suspension.
