Following a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated lateral meniscus injury during the match between Spain and Georgia (3-1) on Sunday, Gavi will be sidelined for an extended period. And it seems the Spanish national team won’t be calling him back anytime soon.

Gavi, the midfielder for FC Barcelona, is likely to remain absent from the Spanish national team until 2025, as reported by the Spanish newspaper AS.

Gavi’s unavailability is already confirmed for the Euro and the Olympic Games in Paris next summer. Even if the player were to return at the beginning of the next season, which is uncertain, Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, intends to deliberately rest him during the three international breaks in September, October, and November.

As a result, Gavi’s return to the national team could be considered in March 2025, marking the beginning of the qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup.
