Ousmane Dembélé has faced significant criticism for his lack of goals this season, but a recent study by the CIES Football Observatory highlights his impact beyond scoring.

The study ranks players creating chances worldwide in the current season, with a minimum of 630 minutes played. Ousmane Dembélé, the 26-year-old forward who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from FC Barcelona this summer, tops the list. His PSG teammate Kylian Mbappé, the 24-year-old forward, ranks fourth.

This information underscores Dembélé and Mbappé’s substantial contribution to chance creation, emphasizing their influence on their team’s offensive play. These rankings provide valuable insights into individual player performance in specific aspects of the game.

« The creation index is calculated by adding the number of key passes (for chances) and expected assists (based on the danger of the created chances) per 90 minutes and weighting the result by the sports level of the matches played (as a percentage deviation from the overall average). Only players who have played at least 630 minutes in the league for the same team in the current season are considered, » explains CIES.

Here is the Top 20 according to CIES:
