End of suspense: Eden Hazard announces he won’t play professional football anymore. In England, the Daily Mirror believes Zinedine Zidane is partly responsible.

It’s the end of an era for Belgium. Eden Hazard announced his retirement on Tuesday at the age of 32, despite several clubs wanting to relaunch his career after leaving Real Madrid last summer, following four disappointing years.

« One must know how to listen to oneself and stop at the right moment. After 16 years of my career and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my professional football career. I was able to fulfill my dream, playing and having fun on the fields across Europe and the world, » he first explained on his social media.

« I have met wonderful people during my career, managers, coaches, teammates, and I want to particularly thank the clubs I’ve been through: LOSC, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, and, of course, thank the Belgian national team, » he added.

The Daily Mirror pays tribute to the « Chelsea legend who is retiring, » referring to Eden Hazard’s retirement.

However, the tabloid highlights Zinedine Zidane’s responsibility for the decline of the Belgian player at Real Madrid, stating that « Eden’s career stalled » and that « the star shone until his transfer to Madrid, where Zidane was not a fan. »
