The Spanish justice system fears the worst for Dani Alves: the Brazilian accused of rape has been placed on an anti-suicide watch.

Imprisoned since January 2023 following allegations of sexual assault in late December 2022 in a nightclub restroom, Daniel Alves is awaiting the verdict of his trial. His cellmate, interviewed by Spanish television, asserts that he is experiencing profound psychological distress.

« Since the start of the trial, he has been battling depression. He appears depressed, demoralized. Educators and prison staff are providing him with support. An anti-suicide protocol was initiated upon his return from court, out of concern that he may attempt self-harm or desperate acts, » said the Brazilian defender’s fellow inmate.

It is noteworthy that the former FC Barcelona player faces a potential sentence of up to nine years of imprisonment.
