Neymar, aged 31, is facing an extended absence from the football pitch, estimated to be close to a year.

The Brazilian player suffered an anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in his left knee on October 17 during the match against Uruguay (0-2) in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

According to information from Globoesporte, Neymar is scheduled for surgery this Thursday in Belo Horizonte. While there were rumors that he wanted to have the operation in France, the Seleção’s number 10 has ultimately chosen to stay in Brazil and entrust the surgical procedure to the doctor of the Brazilian national team, Rodrigo Lasmar.

However, his club, Al-Hilal, still needs to give its consent as they preferred Neymar to be treated in France.

While awaiting whether an agreement can be reached, Globoesporte reports that the expected recovery period is at least ten months. This implies that Neymar is unlikely to return to the field before September 2024, if all goes as planned.
