The investigation involving Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and his compatriots Nicolò Fagioli and Nicolò Zaniolo concerning sports betting on illegal platforms is underway.

According to the Gazette Dello Sport, Sandro Tonali has confessed to placing bets on AC Milan matches, his former team, and games in which he was not directly involved. However, he reportedly wagered only on AC Milan victories or matches in which he wasn’t participating directly.

As reported by La Repubblica, Sandro Tonali is willing to cooperate with investigators and admit his alleged involvement in the case. By acknowledging the facts, he hopes to receive a reduced penalty. Tonali could face a suspension of up to three years due to this issue. He aims to fully cooperate in revealing the truth and potentially securing a milder punishment.

His agent, Giuseppe Riso, commented on the matter: « Sandro is playing an important game against gambling addiction: he will win this one too. Congratulations to Newcastle, which has always been by Sandro’s side. He is in shock, shaken, and sad. I hope this experience will save his life and the lives of many others, helping those who fall into the same habit as him. Sandro is training, and on Saturday (Newcastle-Crystal Palace), he could also play. He has realized he must confront this issue with determination. The club is absolutely supporting him at the moment. »
