Kevin-Prince Boateng, who briefly played for FC Barcelona in 2019, had the opportunity to share the pitch with Lionel Messi. The Ghanaian international recently made a humorous confession about the rivalry between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo during a podcast hosted by Rio Ferdinand.
Boateng admitted to being in a tricky situation when asked who, between Messi and Ronaldo, was the best player in the world. He jokingly said:
« When they asked me who the best player in the world was, I always had to answer Messi (laughs). It’s one of my biggest lies because I always like to tell the truth, but I had to lie about that one to be able to play at Camp Nou. (…) Messi asked me how hard it was to score in Italy because Cristiano Ronaldo was there at the time. I told him it was very difficult, and yet Cristiano was scoring every other match for three years! »
Kevin-Prince Boateng also revealed that he used to be a fan of Real Madrid. « Barcelona fans might hate me for this, but I was a Madrid fan. I lied in press conferences when I said I was a Barcelona fan because that was the only way to play there. »
