Italian World Cup champion Gennaro Gattuso has been named as the new head coach of Olympique de Marseille (OM).

Just a few days after OM’s debacle against PSG, the interim manager Jacques Abardonado is already out. Gennaro Gattuso replaces Marcelino, who resigned following a tense meeting between supporters and club officials.

« I am very happy and proud to join Olympique de Marseille, » Gennaro Gattuso said, as quoted in the club’s statement. « I am looking forward to getting to work with my new team and facing the upcoming challenges ahead of us, » he added.

Gennaro Gattuso was among the names mentioned to take over PSG last summer. However, Luis Enrique was ultimately chosen for the position.
