Le Parisien Drops Weekend Bombshell: Lionel Messi Wanted to Extend His Stay at PSG
Since his departure to Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has been consistently critical of PSG and Paris. However, according to Le Parisien, it appears to be more bitterness than genuine discontent.
Lionel Messi reportedly wished to continue his career at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) despite leaving the club at the end of June this year. According to journalist Dominique Sévérac of Le Parisien, Messi felt slighted by not being retained by PSG.
Reportedly, Messi and his father, Jorge, were in negotiations with the French capital club to extend his contract since the 2022 World Cup, and an agreement had even been reached in December 2022. However, circumstances changed after the World Cup, notably due to his performances, and the two parties couldn’t come to terms on the financial aspects of the extension.
This situation apparently deeply vexed Messi, and he intends to share his perspective on his departure from Paris in upcoming interviews.
