To commemorate Lionel Messi’s 8th Ballon d’Or win, the German sportswear giant Adidas has had eight 14-carat gold rings crafted, symbolizing each of the Argentine’s victories.
The concept is reminiscent of the awards given to players of the winning NBA franchise, the North American basketball championship, which the French national team in 2018 also used as inspiration to gift each of their 23 players a piece of jewelry in memory of their World Cup victory.
However, Messi won’t be keeping these rings for himself. They will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charitable organizations selected by the Inter Miami’s new player and Adidas.
