Is the Ballon d’Or ceremony in need of a makeover? The Amaury Group is entrusting its organization to UEFA in an unprecedented agreement.
Following FIFA’s involvement, it is now UEFA’s turn to be part of the Ballon d’Or. An agreement has been reached with the Amaury Group, the owner of France Football and L’Équipe, to collaborate on the organization of the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Starting from 2024, the European body will contribute to the planning of the event by inviting the biggest football stars, while also focusing on enhancing the commercial aspect of the event, as reported by L’Équipe. This move aims to inject some excitement into a ceremony that has become rather dull.
Unlike the previous agreement with FIFA from 2010 to 2015, the name of the Ballon d’Or trophy will remain unchanged, and the voting system will also stay the same: France Football will continue to manage the votes and the editorial aspects related to the Ballon d’Or presentation.
